What is VoIP or Internet Telephony ?

What are the 16 free features ?

  • Caller id: Displays the caller id of the person calling.
  • Enhanced voice mail: It is more than just voice mail where you can record and retrieve voice messages. You can also receive the messages on your email while you are away from the phone or travelling.
  • Call waiting: If you are on a call, you will be beeped to indicate another person is trying to reach you.
  • 3-way calling: You can conference up to 3 persons without any special equipment.
  • Call forwarding: You can transfer your call to any number in the world except India (as Indian authorities do not permit this). Great for when you are travelling abroad.
  • Do not disturb (DND): You can set the call to go directly to the voice mail if you do not want to accept any calls.
  • Overwrite DND: You are expecting that very important call and your phone is set to “Do not disturb”. Enter the list of those important numbers like from your wife or boss who will be able to reach you even if the phone is set to DND.
  • Hide caller id: You can hide your caller id while making calls. That is, the other party will not be able to see your virtual phone number.
  • Speed dialing: You can set up to 10 speed dial numbers (0 to 9) for easy calling. No need to remember long numbers.
  • Call screening: Listen to the phone number of the party before accepting the call or diverting it to the voice mail.
  • Follow me: While you are travelling or away from the phone, enter a list of numbers where you might be reachable. Your call will try to reach you on all those numbers in the order entered, if you do not pick up the phone within specified rings.
  • Broadcast calling: Using broadcast calling, you can have all the phones specified in your Follow me list to ring simultaneously.
  • Black list: This is the list of persons who will never be able to contact you but may always go straight to voice mail like a pesky overseas vendor.
  • Enhanced call screening: Listen to the name of the party before accepting the call or diverting it to the voice mail.
  • Soft/ Web phone. Great for when you are travelling. Carry your phone virtually with you. Connect your laptop to a broadband connection and use the soft phone to make and receive calls. Not carrying a laptop, no problems. Login to your World Phone account on the web (for example in a cyber café) and use the web phone to make and receive calls.
  • Online phone book: Maintain an online phone book to complement your soft phone.

How are calls received ?

Every customer will be assigned a virtual US number of the area code of your choice (subject to availability). When you call at this number, this will ring at your home in India on the instrument that is connected to the device.

Yes. You can call the virtual US number from anywhere in the world and it will land on the World Phone device where the number is mapped.

Do I need my computer running in order to receive calls ?

Yes, your 888atindia account provides you with complete portability. You can access 888atindia from anywhere in the world using 888atindia’s softphone or a phone adapter. To access 888atindia’s softphone, simply log into your account and click launch webphone. The softphone automatically installs. To use a phone adapter, just plug it into any high-speed Internet connection and place calls.

Will the 888atindia service interfere with my DSL or cable modem data connection? Will I be able to browse Internet simultaneously while making a call ?

The 888atindia service routes your incoming and outgoing voice calls right alongside the data being sent to or from your computer. So, you can make and receive calls while you use your computer to access/ browse the Internet. 888atindia uses advanced audio compression techniques to minimize the data traffic caused by voice calls and maximize the bandwidth available for your other Internet traffic.

Do I need a fixed / static IP to use 888atindia service ?

No, you do not need a static IP address to enjoy the advantages of 888atindia service. 888atindia service is designed to work in a dynamic address (DHCP) environment, such as that available with most home gateway routers.

How do you bill calls ?

We bill calls on a per minute basis, rounding up to the next whole minute. There is no minimum call duration. Calls to USA and Canada beyond your plan minutes are only 2 cents per minute.

How do I make an international call ?

Country code +area code+ number. For making a call to USA and Canada, simply dial ‘1’ followed by area code and number. Example, 1-214-614-9000

How is the sound quality ?
